Princess Volkonskaya`s salon

In the first quarter of the 19th century in the mansion on Tverskaya, 14 had been lived the princess Zinaida A. Volkonskaya — a muse of poets and composers.

Since her early years, she had been the rarest and beautiful voice, which admired her contemporaries, bright mind, and beautiful appearance.

Moreover, she had been a subtle healer and patroness of the arts, composed the music, wrote poems and paintings, and took part in her house theatre. Her literary salon was one of the most famous in Moscow.

Among its visitors was almost all the color of Russian literature of that time. The salon existed for a little more than four years (late 1824 — early 1829), but, despite the fact, it became the heart of Moscow literary and cultural life at that time.
